Job Description

Shift Team Leader

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting a leading operator within the energy and sector in appointing a Shift Team Leader. The role of a Shift Team Leader oversees the safe, consistent, and efficient running of a modern facility, ensuring operational integrity across plant systems and leading a skilled shift team.

Key Responsibilities of a Shift Team Leader:

  • Oversee day-to-day facility operations, utilising control-room systems to manage turbines, boilers, pumps, and associated plant equipment.
  • Ensure all operational activities are executed within safety, environmental, and quality standards, maintaining compliance with strict regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections, walkdowns, and performance checks to identify equipment status, efficiency, and potential issues.
  • Lead, support, and develop shift personnel, providing guidance, technical oversight, and maintaining strong communication across the team.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, support minor on-shift maintenance coordination, and contribute to continuous improvement of procedures and processes.

Candidate Requirements

  • A technical qualification (e.g., HNC/NVQ) in engineering or equivalent industry experience within power generation, steam production, or similar process environments.
  • Strong competence in DCS, HMI, SCADA, or equivalent plant control systems, supported by hands-on operational knowledge.
  • Proven ability to work within both control-room and shop-floor settings, demonstrating sound judgement and a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Effective communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the flexibility required to operate within a 24/7 shift rotation.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety standards; additional training or certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, BOAS) are beneficial but not essential.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive annual salary circa £59,000, reflective of experience and shift responsibilities.
  • A permanent, full-time role within a well-established, high-performing operational facility.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including further training in safety, compliance, and plant operations.
  • Supportive team culture with a strong focus on mentoring, development, and operational excellence.
  • Long-term career prospects within a secure and growing industry, offering stability and future progression routes.

If you are an experienced plant operations professional seeking a leadership role within a forward-thinking organisation, we welcome your application.
