Junior Researcher
Altera Recruitment is partnering with an innovative clean-energy technology company developing breakthrough processes that convert difficult waste streams into low-carbon fuels and carbon-rich by-products. Their patented systems enable carbon-negative energy production and are now entering a major scale-up phase following new investment and successful grant funding. This is an opportunity to join a small, fast-growing team shaping the future of sustainable energy.
This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career researcher seeking hands-on experience in an R&D setting. You’ll work closely with the Lead Chemist to support day-to-day laboratory operations, run analytical equipment, assist with prototype testing and contribute to ongoing research projects.
Key Responsibilities of the Junior Researcher include:
- Support laboratory operations, including COSHH updates, stock checks and equipment scheduling.
- Prepare and analyse gas, liquid and solid samples using a range of chemistry techniques.
- Assist with experimental trials on thermochemical and purification systems.
- Help interpret analytical data using software tools and modelling packages.
- Contribute to technical reporting for internal projects, collaborations and funded programmes.
Requirements:
- Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field, with 0–2 years’ experience.
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail and confidence following laboratory procedures.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within technical teams.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and able to learn laboratory/analytical software quickly.
- Familiarity with analytical equipment, COSHH or risk assessment processes, or a willingness to develop these skills.
