CAD Designer

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting a specialist CAD engineering business in Hampshire in the appointment of a CAD Designer to take ownership of its steelwork detailing.

The business produces 3D models and fabrication drawings for steel fabricators across the UK, covering structural steel frames, plant platforms and architectural metalwork, and works alongside a sister company that designs and builds spectator stands for sports grounds.

The role would suit a CAD Designer or steelwork detailer with Advance Steel or Tekla experience who wants real ownership of the drawing work in a growing business.

Key Responsibilities of the CAD Designer

• Build accurate 3D models in Autodesk Advance Steel from architectural and structural engineers’ drawings.
• Produce GA, fabrication, assembly and part drawings, plus material lists, bolt lists and NC and DXF files.
• Detail connections to the engineer’s requirements and flag design issues or clashes early.
• Manage drawing revisions, issue registers and approval status across several live projects.
• Liaise directly with fabricators, engineers and site teams, including occasional site measure ups.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 1 year’s experience as a steelwork detailer, CAD Designer or CAD technician in structural steel or architectural metalwork.
• Strong working knowledge of Advance Steel, or Tekla Structures with a willingness to switch.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to read architectural and structural drawings.
• A good understanding of fabrication processes, including welding, bolted connections, galvanising and tolerances.
• High attention to detail and the confidence to deal directly with clients.
• An HNC, HND or degree in structural, civil or mechanical engineering would be advantageous.

What’s on Offer

• Salary of £30,000 to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
• Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, 08:00 to 17:00.
